FALL CONFERENCE ON URBAN MINISTRY

Moving Faith: World Christianity/ New York Christianity

Christianity is a global faith.
 Today its processes of cultural interaction are most prominent in Africa, Asia and Latin America. Linked to globalization and the multi-directionality of religious networks, the scope and context of this diverse story encompasses New York City. 

"Moving Faith", the third annual City Seminary of New York Fall Conference on Urban Ministry, will explore aspects and implications of this "local" and "global" development. In this light, the working conference will be bringing to the fore new horizons of urban ministry and Christian faith in a global world.

Keynote Speakers

Ruth Padilla DeBorst – Theologian and church leader, she is president of the Latin American Theological, director of IFES's Spanish-speaking publishing house Ediciones Certeza Unida, and team leader of Christian Reformed World Mission's work in El Salvador. Ruth is currently pursuing a doctoral degree at Boston University School of Theology.


Manuel Vásquez – A professor of religion at the University of Florida, Manuel's most most recent publications include Globalizing the Sacred: Religion Across the Americas (Rutgers University Press, 2003), which he co-authored with Marie Friedmann Marquardt, and Immigrant Faiths: Transforming Religious Life in America  (AltaMira 2005), a co-edited study.

Andrew F. Walls – Founder of the Centre for the Study of Christianity in the Non-Western World, University of Edinburgh and Centre for the Study of African and Asian Christianity, Liverpool Hope University, UK, he is the author or numerous works including The Cross-Cultural Process in Christian History. 

Amos Yong – Professor of systematic theology at Regent University School of Ministry, he is the author of numerous works, including 
Hospitality and the Other: Pentecost, Christian Practices, and the Neighbor and The Spirit Poured out on All Flesh: Pentecostalism and the Possibility of Global Theology.
